Fundraise the Roof!

Almost nine years ago, where Redcatch Community Garden stands today was a disused bowling green. Today, it’s something entirely different - it’s a place where people arrive unsure and leave lighter, where children discover insects with wide-eyed fascination and where conversations over tea quietly change someone’s day.

Our lovely video, by the wonderful Rowan of Seren Media, shares RCG’s story so far; from where we started to where we are now, who we’re here for and why, plus our next big ambition to build an indoor café that will help to sustain our community activities long into the future. The video really highlights why spaces like ours are no longer just nice to have: they’re essential!

As Kate (our CEO) points out, one of the most powerful things we’ve learnt over the years is that health and wellbeing can shift throughout life. You might feel physically well and mentally steady today, but things can change in the blink of an eye. When that happens, where does one go? For many in our community, the Garden has become that answer. In a world that can often feel fast, transactional and isolating, the quiet consistency of community spaces like ours have become a lifeline. Through our various creative wellbeing groups, shared meals, volunteering and informal connection, we’ve seen people rediscover confidence they thought they’d lost, friendships form between people who might have not met otherwise and the magic that happens when someone feels safe enough to step outside their comfort zone and realises they belong! Our new video shares voices from across our community, from people who’ve experienced first-hand what this space means to them. 

Now, we’re preparing for our next stage of growth: a new, indoor and accessible café that will help sustain everything we do! Rooted will create income to support our wellbeing programmes, education work and food initiatives long-term. Most of all, it will help ensure the Garden doesn’t just survive but thrives for decades to come.

We are so proud and grateful to our community for the incredible fundraising efforts so far: with your amazing support we have already raised £99,288.80 towards building Rooted! All this to say, we still have a way to go and we’d love your help to reach our goal. With a full build cost of £230,000, every pound raised moves us closer to creating the welcoming, fully accessible café space our community deserves.
