At RCG, we couldn't do what we do without our volunteers, so we work hard to make the process of joining us as smooth as possible!

 

Once you send in your form, someone from the team will contact you to arrange an initial meeting to discuss what you'd like to do. Depending on volunteering availability, we'll then invite you to attend three supervised taster sessions. After these, we'll ask you to complete a volunteer application, including two references, and carry out a DBS check.

Once everything comes back, you're ready to join the team!

Posts involving direct contact with, care and supervision of children and vulnerable adults are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and any such volunteer positions are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS and barred list check. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013, 2020, 2023) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers, cannot be taken into account and are ’filtered’ out of DBS checks.  Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the DBS website or at Nacro – https://www.nacro.org.uk/nacro-services/criminal-record-support/advice-for-individuals/what-is-filtering/.  

If we feel your application is suitable, you will be invited to meet with us.  Prior to this meeting, you will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that are not protected and would not be filtered and whether you are disqualified from registration, if relevant to the role. You may be asked for further information about anything disclosed at the meeting.  If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.
