Here at Redcatch Community Garden, we pride ourselves on being a place where mental health and wellbeing are nurtured. Established in 2017 by a group of passionate volunteers, RCG operates as a Charitable Community Benefit Society with the aim of benefiting the entire community. We’ve created a welcoming space where people can come together to learn, socialise, share skills and experiences, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and reduce isolation and loneliness.
On this World Mental Health Day, we want to celebrate the strength and resilience of our community and share the ways we’re working to support mental health on a day-to-day basis.
This year’s theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations and communities.
So, what do we offer at RCG? 💚
🌼 Inclusive Employment: As an equal opportunities employer, we believe that everyone deserves access to meaningful work. Through our inclusive hiring and training processes, we celebrate neurodiversity and love to see our employees grow. We also collaborate with local organisations like Step and Stone that support individuals with mental health challenges, learning differences and additional needs to help them find their path to employment.
🎨 Art & Wellbeing Groups: Our weekly art therapy groups create a calm, creative space for many in the community. These include a weekly group for those with dementia and a general art and wellbeing group designed to encourage connection and self-expression. We also offer 1-1 art therapy as well as monthly ADHD Women's Circles to connect like-minded humans 🔵
🌱 Green Social Prescribing: Connecting with nature can be a powerful tool for managing anxiety and depression. Our Green Social Prescribing groups, designed for those with mild to moderate mental health concerns, provide a space for relaxation, reflection and community through the healing power of gardening.
🧘♀ Body and Mind: Keeping both body and mind active is essential to good mental health and wellbeing. Here at RCG, we offer weekly Tai Chi, Paracise and Yoga classes. And for those who love to boogie, our quarterly FAB Disco for Over 50s and ceilidhs are perfect!
🧠 Young Minds: We believe that mental health awareness begins early. That’s why we’re proud to host three school visits every week, engaging students with nature, science and the joys of outdoor learning. During the school holidays, we offer a variety of activities, from cookery classes that teach nutrition and life skills to hands-on science workshops that spark curiosity and creativity. For our youngest visitors, our weekly messy play group (ages 0-4) offers a fun, sensory environment where little ones can explore, create and connect in nature.
We pride ourselves on being a place where everyone gets the opportunity to flourish! Thank you to our amazing staff and volunteers who have made this project possible and our fantastic community for your support!
To many more happy and healthy years to come 💚
