There’s something special happening in the Garden every Thursday morning! Our new woodworking group, part of the Climate and Disability strand of the Community Climate Action Project, have been hard at work transforming reclaimed wood into handcrafted garden planters.

These workshops, funded by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund and part of the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, provide an inclusive space for attendees to gain skills and make new connections. With four enthusiastic participants, the group has gotten stuck into designing and building these beautiful garden planters.

Despite various challenges (including dismantling pallets, preparing the wood and even braving heavy rain!) our team has been making fantastic progress under Cher and Barrie’s careful guidance. Each piece of repurposed wood helps reduce waste while creating something meaningful for our community.

These handmade planters are now available for sale, with all proceeds going directly back into sustaining and developing our woodworking group. By purchasing one, you’ll not only be adding a unique, eco-friendly feature to your garden but also supporting an initiative that empowers local Disabled people.

NB: As demand is high, staff and volunteers who run the sessions are assisting with making planters.

Order yours now either via our online shop or in person at Roots Café. We are so grateful for your continued support! 💚
