We’re thrilled to announce that our Youth Climate Project will continue, thanks to a second round of funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies' Youth Climate Action Fund!
Having been funded in Round 1, our young people achieved amazing things:
Creating wildlife habitats
Raising climate awareness
Building friendships
Strengthening connections with the Garden
New Youth-Led Initiative: Wood Recycling for Pollinators
For round 2, we’re proud to be developing an idea from one of our young participants: Recycling wood into planters to create more habitat for pollinators in Bristol!
'Our young people will be out and about over the next few months sharing with the public how to increase important urban biodiversity.' Heather Peet, Engagement Lead
Bristol has announced nearly £70,000 in new funding to support 18 youth-led climate action projects. This builds on the £35,000 already distributed in the first round in August 2024, all funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Youth Climate Action Fund.
Each selected organisation will receive a micro-grant of £800 to £3,500 to develop innovative projects led by young people aged 15–24.
'Young people are some of the most engaged in climate action and are taking creative, bold approaches to doing more to address the challenges we face.' Cllr Martin Fodor, Chair, Environment and Sustainability Policy Committee
Projects include:
Growing food gardens and learning to cook with them
Bristol’s first nature-themed club night
Bus route art, zines & climate conversations
Youth-led creative art and climate mentoring
A new repair café and bike maintenance for young people
“It is inspiring to see the action of Bristol organisations and young people being recognised on the global stage.”
Bristol is one of 98 cities worldwide selected to take part in this programme, spanning 38 countries and 6 continents, representing over 62 million residents. Grants are being distributed locally in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
Huge congratulations to all other funded projects and a heartfelt thank you to Bloomberg Philanthropies' Youth Climate Action Fund for continuing to support the power of youth-led climate action! With the ideas and drive of young people, we're moving toward a more sustainable and connected future.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue to grow this next phase! 💚
