Here at Redcatch Community Garden, we are passionate about improving the lives of those living with dementia and their carers. Our wonderful art therapists have developed their wonderful sessions over the last four years: the weekly open art therapy group has become a vital resource for our local community, providing a safe haven where participants can express themselves creatively in our beautiful garden setting.

The following article, featured in the International Journal of Art Therapy, was written by Art Therapists working at the Garden and analyses their experiences of running these groups. The Garden is a unique setting for art therapy and the article presents both the benefits and challenges in facilitating a sense of safety for participants.

The success of this group demonstrates the profound impact that nature-based approaches to wellbeing can have on improving quality of life for people with dementia and their carers.
