Jane Richards

Art Therapist

I qualified as an Art Psychotherapist in July 2023 from the University of South Wales previous to this I worked in the field of family support, youth work and education for 16 years.

During my studies I was fortunate to complete some of my placement hours at RCG, supporting the art therapy group for people living with dementia and their carers. It was a wonderful experience and I was thrilled to get the chance to return and continue my work in such a brilliant setting.

Before returning to RCG I spent two years working for a charity specialising in supporting people affected by life limiting illness. I supported people experiencing loss and bereavement, those navigating their own diagnosis or health issues or family members caring for others through recovery or end of life.

My work now at RCG means I am able to support a diverse range of clients of all ages referred privately, through local schools and through the adoption support services. The RCG environment means that people can experience art therapy in many forms, through traditional art making, play and through nature and community.

Alongside my work here I also spend part of my week working in a specialist school for neurodivergent young people. Supporting people with diverse communication and sensory needs is a special interest of mine and I strive to make sessions with me accessible, person centred and adaptive to each individual.

My most recent training has focused on AuDHD, PDA and Continuing Bonds in Grief.
