World Bee Day is celebrated annually on the 20th of May to highlight the indispensable role that bees and other pollinators play in maintaining the health of people and the planet. These tiny yet mighty creatures are vital for biodiversity and food production, pollinating the plants that provide us with fruit, veg and so much more! 🐝💚
Our Pollinator Project
Funded by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), our pollinator project aims to create pollinator-friendly habitats across various locations, including the Garden, the Park, local schools and every space in between.
How You Can Help
You can contribute to this vital cause by picking up a free pollinator seed pack from the Garden! These seed packs contain a mix of flowers specifically chosen to attract and support pollinators. Whether you have a pot on your windowsill, a small garden, or a roadside verge, you can create your own pollinator habitat and make a difference.
Steps to Create Your Pollinator Habitat:
Pick Up Your Seed Pack: Visit the Garden to collect your free pollinator seed pack.
Choose Your Spot: Find a suitable location, whether it’s a pot, your garden, or a nearby verge.
Prepare the Soil: Ensure the soil is well-drained and free of weeds.
Plant the Seeds: Follow the instructions on the seed pack for the best results.
Water Regularly: Keep the soil moist until the seeds have germinated and the plants are established.
Enjoy and Observe: Watch as your flowers bloom and attract various pollinators!
Why It Matters
Pollinators are facing numerous threats, including habitat loss, climate change, pesticides and diseases. By creating pollinator-friendly spaces, we can provide them with the resources they need to survive and thrive. This, in turn, supports biodiversity, helps maintain our food supply and promotes a healthy environment.
Let’s come together to protect and celebrate these incredible creatures. Visit the Garden, pick up your free pollinator seed pack and start creating your own pollinator paradise. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure a sustainable future for bees and other pollinators.
Happy World Bee Day! 🐝💚
